Meet the Fluffmeister General — Your New Favorite IHSS Resource (Who Happens to Be a Cat)

written by Mary

I’m Mary—an IHSS caregiver in Santa Barbara and mom to an adult son with Coffin–Siris Syndrome. I left graphic design to keep him safe at home. Here I translate the IHSS maze into plain English: wages vs. cost of living, Medi-Cal vs. Social Security, union/county policy, and practical how-tos. Expect straight talk, data, and zero pity. Caregiving is real work—and this site treats it that way.

Welcome to Holland - a poem by by Emily Perl Kingsley

Look, we get it. You’re exhausted. You’ve got seventeen browser tabs open, three of them are IHSS forms, and one of them is a cat video you opened at 2am because you needed to feel something.

We can’t close those tabs for you. But we CAN offer you something better than a government website that was clearly designed in 2004 and never updated.

Introducing the Fluffmeister General — Awesome Luck’s AI chatbot, trained specifically on IHSS caregiving resources, and significantly more charming than your county’s automated phone system.

Got questions about IHSS hours? Ask the cat. Wondering about provider enrollment? The cat knows. Need to understand what the heck a SOC is? The cat has opinions.

Look for the Fluffmeister in the bottom right corner of the page. Click the cat. Ask your question. Try not to be surprised when you actually get a useful answer.

Fair warning: the Fluffmeister may occasionally tell a dad joke (coming soon – the special features take a bit longer to drag out). This is a feature, not a bug. Caregivers need joy too.

Find the Fluffmeister on most pages of this site. We hope it helps — even if he brings just a little smile.
